The first book in “The Fishing Chronicles” series, “Monster of Farallon Islands,” would be a good fit for middle-grade readers who enjoy fishing, adventure, and sharks. Casey James was on a fishing trip on his dad’s charter boat when they received an SOS from a freighter. The crew was rescued, but the ship sank on top of a long-buried secret. A surfing competition with a large cash prize and the discovery of a 25-foot great white shark add chaos and more mystery to this adventure.
